Treatment Philosophy

Many families in our area face desperate situations that involve mental health and substance use issues. Our therapy approach is to treat the entire family, not just the struggling individual. Our goal is to renew and maintain the family structure and support group with an emphasis on returning the individual to a healthy family and community life. For more information about services and the success of our programs, clinicians, and staff, our 2020 annual report can be viewed below.

Treatment Team

The success of any treatment program lies in the dedication and skill of the treatment team. Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services draws on the latest test research and the expertise of its committed and trained clinical staff of licensed counselors and social workers. All are skilled practitioners with broad experience in helping youth and adults in crisis situations. They work together as a team to provide creative, systemically oriented treatment interventions.

Who We Are:

Family Life was organized and opened under the direction of Dr. Steven Burggraf in 1999. With very small beginnings, Dr. Burggraf established a working relationship with Richland County Children Services and Richland County Juvenile Court. His primary focus was to provide mental health evaluations and adolescent treatment services, but he quickly added services as needs were apparent.
