Frequently Asked Questions

There are many families in Richland County facing desperate situations that involve mental health and substance abuse issues. For these people, Family Life Counseling is a place of hope.

What happens during the first appointment?

All the necessary paperwork will be completed (financial paperwork, your rights, consent for services).

You'll complete a survey to help the counselor know where you are regarding certain issues such as friendship, finances, feelings about medications, etc. It also helps to map progress in counseling to see what has improved over a period of time after you have re-taken the survey several months later.

You'll complete a questionnaire called an assessment that asks about background information, reasons you are coming in for counseling, family history information, questions regarding medication and health, etc.

You'll also have an opportunity to ask any questions related to the counseling process.
