Individual, Couple, and Family Services

Individual Services:

By utilizing the latest research and experience, our goal has always been to make a positive difference in the lives of our clients. There are many different reasons why someone may seek out counseling services.

When talking with a licensed professional, individuals are offered the opportunity to increase their self-awareness, be held accountable to their goals, communicate their desires, improve their weaknesses, increase self esteem, overcome traumas, and effectively cope with life changes to further pursue the life they wish to have.

Counseling can be completed in a one-on-one or family-oriented session.

Marriage & Couple Counseling:

Relationships require a significant investment of time, energy, and commitment. By utilizing proven therapeutic techniques, our couples counseling programs are developed to help couples strengthen their connections. Our licensed counselors have been trained to help individuals overcome relational stress, improve communication, address unresolved issues, and apply therapeutic concepts to day-to-day interactions.

Benefits of couple counseling can include the following:

  • Improved communication and clarification of feelings
  • Resolved relational conflicts or roadblocks
  • Strengthen self-awareness and personal growth
  • Develop firm understanding of your partner and their needs

Couples counseling can be effective for individuals of all ages, ethnic groups, and socioeconomic statuses. Additionally, we are happy to assist individuals who are dating, engaged, or married.

Case Management:

Utilized in collaboration with mental health or substance use treatment, case management is utilized to help individuals assess and meet their external needs in order to fully participate and collaborate with their counselor during sessions. By helping the individual, case managers are able to directly assist in the process of providing supports that maximize the individual's independence, dignity, and quality of life.

By relying on guiding principles, interventions, and strategies for success, case management can be utilized for accessing benefits, finding a safe living environment, securing transportation, establishing a resume and cover letter, conducting a mock interview, applying for jobs, and many more.

Family & Child-Centered Services:

Since our establishment, we have always encouraged family involvement in services. By emphasizing the importance of continued family support, we utilize group sessions to help families improve communication, develop awareness of individual persons, establish boundaries, create individual responsibilities, and understand family roles.

Family services can be used to assist in adjusting to major life transitions, managing feelings of grief, welcoming new family members, overcoming behavioral concerns, managing conflicts, blending families, and many more.

Child-Centered Services:

We are proud to be offering a variety of holistic and evidence-based services for children and families. Services are offered at all Family Life Counseling locations, including our newly established Children's Behavioral Health Center in Norwalk.

Psychiatric Services:

Psychiatry is defined as a branch of medicine that is focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health. Their education and clinical training equip them to understand the complex relationship between emotional causes, medical illnesses, and the relationship between genetics and patterns in family histories.

Psychiatrists typically treat a variety of issues, some of which include: depression, panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, delusions, hallucinations, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and insomnia.

To be qualified for our psychiatric program, the client would need to be enrolled and active in a secondary program.

Survivor Programs:

Domestic violence and sexual abuse impacts hundreds of thousands of individuals every year. To assist those survivors, we have created individualized programs to assist with finding safety and overcoming traumas. Benefits of counseling can include the following: recognizing warning signs, creating a safety plan, expressing your feelings, having your feelings validated, developing self awareness and improving self esteem. Abusive relationships can be recognized through signs of manipulation, gas-lighting, shame, and many more. Which leads us to ask the question: What does an abusive relationship look like?

Does your partner ever…

  • Embarrass you or purposefully make you feel down?
  • Control what you do, who you see, or where you go?
  • Control money in the relationship?
  • Make all of the decisions in your relationship?
  • Tell you that you’re a bad parent or threaten to take away your children?
  • Prevent you from working or attending school?
  • Threaten to commit suicide or threaten to kill you?

If you answered ‘yes’ to even one of these questions, you may be in an unhealthy or unsafe relationship. Don’t hesitate to seek help or more information if you notice concerns of abuse in your relationship or a relationship of a loved one.

Restorative Practices & Parenting Programs:

We are proud to offer a variety of restorative practices and behavior-specific programs to guide individuals, families, and groups to feelings of mutual respect and contentment. These evidence-based practices focus on acknowledging the concern or conflict endured, while openly communicating with both parties to find a way to establish peace of mind for all involved. Restorative practices can be utilized in situations at school, with personal conflicts between individuals or families, to overcome disputes at work, or to restore a feeling of peace between family members.

In addition to restorative practices, we offer a variety of parenting programs to assist parents in understanding their children, addressing problematic behaviors, managing conflict, building consistency and promoting family unity. By empowering and educating parents on specific prevention and intervention strategies, we focus on establishing trust and addressing behavioral concerns, such as: truancy, substance use, gang involvement, running away, violence, sexual concerns, and self-harming behaviors.
